Nikolay Amosov was a Soviet and Ukrainian thoracic surgeon, medical scientist, and writer.

Born on December 6, , in a small village near Cherepovets, his family had a peasant background. His mother worked as a midwife, and his father left the family soon after returning from World War I. Nikolay grew up in poverty, but his mother's dedication to her work and his grandmother's influence shaped his values and aspirations.

At the age of 12, Amosov moved to Cherepovets to continue his education.

He studied in a school and later in a technical college, where he earned a degree in engineering.
